These West German glass stones were manufactured for the costume jewelry industry from the 1950's - 1970's as an affordable alternative to precious gems. These flatback cabochons have metallic foil backs which adds a bright, reflective quality to the color.
Many of these stones show typical wear for glass of this age such as minor chipping or foil flaking; but it does not detract from their beauty or elegance. They are excellent for beadwork, wire work, wrapping, mixed media collage, mosaics, costume jewelry repair … and whatever else your imagination can stir up!
