These vintage glass cabochons were manufactured in West Germany, from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. They’re nice large focals, measuring 27 mm round. The design is a detailed geometric pattern with spirals and leaves. The color was particularly hard to capture (and you can see that it appears quite different, depending on the background color) – it’s a very dark bronze or brown iris, with a slightly reddish copper tone. These stones are absolutely elegant. You will receive one cabochon.
The dome measures about 4mm tall, measuring from the back of the stone to the front. The back side of the stone is flat and unfoiled, and the color is a solid black. The backs show a little bit of scratching, which is typical wear for glass of this age; the magnified photos make it appear worse than it is, simply because black glass tends to show every speck of dust (even the ones that aren’t visible to the naked eye!).
These are flat backed cabochons, suited for gluing, mounting or bezeling; they are not beads and they do not have holes.
