These reverse painted intaglio cabochons feature a single yellow rose, which is a symbol of friendship. The rose has soft hints of peachy-orange, and green stems and leaves. The base is clear glass, and the edges are beveled and faceted for a subtle, elegant look.
Note that these intaglios do show more wear than most – some stones may show “holidays” where bits of paint are missing, color fading, or discoloration. In some cases, the paint is loose and can be popped out. These flaws are evident in the photos, and the price has been reduced to reflect the condition. I have had success in repainting old intaglios from the back side (you can even remove the color intentionally and leave it blank or repaint with a new color) but I will leave the choice of restoration to you, since many of my customers actually prefer the aged, shabby chic look. In spite of their flaws – or maybe even because of them – these stones remain beautiful and collectible.
Made in West Germany in the 1950’s – 1970’s for the costume jewelry trade.
Available sizes: 30×40, 18×25 mm, 13×18 mm
* The two smaller sizes show the degree of wear that is described above; the stones in the largest size (30×40 mm) are in better condition than the smaller ones.
